Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter

The first time I heard of the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter, I doubted whether a plastic upside down tomato planter could truly hold the whole weight of a full grown tomato bush. That was until I was surfing eBay and read a "buy one, get one" offer for the upside down tomato garden. I figured then that the price was extremely reasonable and immediately clicked the buy it now option. Unfortunately, I wasn't too impressed when my eagerly awaited hanging tomato planter arrived by mail delivery. The packaging wasn't impressive; also there was no manual except perhaps for 3 pieces of instructional pages that read: "How To Use Your Topsy Turvey Tomato Planter". I also wished that there was more than one design. After all, I ordered two for hanging tomato plants, and I wanted two different colors of each. Initially, everything about my very first upside down planter appeared to be unimpressive.

Nevertheless, I was eager to plant my own organic tomatoes, and there was just no more space available on my patio. My house had no space at all for any REAL garden, except for my patio. This was also the only part of the house exposed to the sun enough to make any of my plants and veggies grow. Even then, my "garden" had no more space for any more vegetables to plant because I also had about eight earthboxes. An earthbox is another type of horizontal garden container that you fill with peat moss and soil before you plant your vegetables or flowers. I did have my beefsteak tomato plant in one of those earthboxes, but what I specifically wanted was to plant Roma tomatoes because they were sweeter, tastier, and have always been a favorite of mine. So would growing upside down tomatoes really work?

Setting up the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter was easy. It does come with a strong, huge bolt which is relatively easy to attach anywhere – be it on the roof of the patio or porch, or any strong wooden pole you can make for that particular purpose. It also comes with a secure, almost over sized hook. This helps to ensure that when the plant begins to get heavy, the hanging tomato planter is strong enough to hold the whole bush.

For the next two weeks after my upside down tomato planter arrived, I planted several Roma tomato seeds in little cups and containers until they were about six feet high. When I thought my new "baby plants" were ready, I followed the instructions - not without a bit of fear that growing tomatoes upside down may not work because I had not tried it before. Nevertheless, after about 30 minutes of transferring my new tomato plants into the Topsy Turvy planter, everything seemed like a breez,e and I felt more confident that I would have my Roma tomatoes in the next two to three months.

I thought about having my first complete organic vegetable garden. I became completely obsessed with my vegetable garden to the point that I was dreaming of organic Caesar Salad, and I gobbled nothing but veggies in my sleep. That was until one dreary day when the local Weather Channel announced that a hurricane was on the way.

There was no way I could protect my growing vegetables that were in the earthboxes. I decided, however, to move my two Roma Tomato plants inside the house. Today, I have given up my dream of going on an all organic vegetarian food meals every day. But I have learned to be content with the most delicious salsa dips and dishes thanks to the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter. This is one upside down tomato planter that truly delivers!
