Accordion Hurricane Shutters - These are permanently fixed, normally beside the windows. As the name suggests, these type would fold over your windows like an accordion when needed for storm and wind protection. They are easy to install and would only need a few minutes to get set up. Since they are permanently fixed, you don't need to have additional storage to put them away. This is also the reason why you would need to ensure that the look of the accordion shutters is complimentary to your home. You can purchase different colors and materials that will preserve the look of your home, while still offering ample protection.
Colonial Hurricane Shutters - These are the same as accordion type shutters. They are also permanently fixed to the windows and would fold together to give protection when needed. They are more decorative as compared to accordion shutters, and as such may work well with more unique windows and "classic" style homes.
Bahama Shutters - These are also permanently fixed and would require only a few minutes to set up in the case of a storm. However, they are weaker as compared to the other hurricane window shutters and may require additional installation to provide utmost protection.
Roll Down Hurricane Shutters - These are permanently attached above the window, and they would normally be stored in a box when they are not in use. These are more expensive as compared to the other types of shutters, in general. These can also be fixed automatically, allowing for the lowering and storage to be completed at a press of a button for ease of use.
Plywood Shutters - The cheapest as well as the most readily available of the hurricane style shutters on the market. In case this would be the one that you would choose, you need to ensure that the installation is done properly for proper storm protection.
