Deck lighting can add beauty, appeal, and a welcome functionality to the outdoor spaces of your home. For example, just think about how nice it would be to have dinner by soft light out on the deck or patio, and then to lounge outside with your loved ones, reading or listening to some music with the soft glow of ambient, outdoor accent lighting. These days, you can choose from many different types and styles of deck light designs, all of which can be easily installed, with built-in weather resistance for all climates. Many outside lighting options are also designed with the latest technologies - from timers and dimmer switches, to solar energy sources that are cost effective and efficient, as well as being eco-friendly.

One common style of deck lighting are deck post lights. This kind of lighting comes with light censor control, which means that you can save energy since the lights can detect the presence and absence of sunlight. This design is also sensitive to the presence of people nearby, and it can detect once someone enters or leaves your deck or outdoor living space. Deck post lights can either be screwed or wall mounted to adapt with the needs of your space.

Another outdoor lighting design to consider are deck lights for your steps, which are an excellent option for prioritizing safety, especially if your family has little children to keep a watchful eye for. For the best effect, you must place these stair lights at each end of the steps. If you have particularly slender stairs, you can place a center deck step light in the middle of each stair to provide adequate lighting.

Another interesting option for outside lighting is the LED deck lighting system. You need to charge it first for four hours before you can use the LED lights, which can then stay lit for up to 12 hours at a time. The advantage of these kinds of deck lights is that you can free yourself from the hassles of wiring costs, and there's also the added benefit of using a remote to turn it them on and off.

If you are looking for deck lighting that saves energy, a great option is low voltage outdoor lighting. If your deck is dark or in a shaded location and is not exposed to several hours of direct sunlight, this option is perfect for you. For those whose outdoor spaces have ample sun exposure, there are also solar deck lights, which are perfect for stairs, landscapes, patios, yards, and just about any outdoor space you can think of. With just two to four watts of power, they provide an excellent amount of light for every need. Just like LED deck lighting, you will only need to charge your lights for four hours and they can then provide 12 hours of non-stop power. You do not need to deal with complicated wiring or installation, and your solar deck lights can be placed anywhere you like.

A more traditional form of outdoor lights are recessed style deck lighting. The reason why it is considered traditional is because of the way it is designed and installed. Connective wires are installed at the bottom of the deck, with protective caps that shield the wire from any movement that may come into contact with the wire. Like any other type of deck lights, recessed outdoor lighting can easily be installed and is resistant to water as well.

Take time to research and carefully plan your deck lighting system, and you'll be ready to enjoy your outdoor deck all year round, and at any time of day!
